Tell Governor Murphy: Protect New Jersey’s Drinking Water
As the population of New Jersey grows, so does our need for clean water. It is unacceptable that the state hasn’t take action on this issue critical to the well-being of all its residents.
Groundwater supplies are being depleted in parts of the state. In parts of Cape May and Cumberland Counties salt water intrusion has made some water supply wells useless for human consumption. Ecological habitats are being impacted by the depletion of groundwater supplies for human use.
New Jersey residents trust the state to care for and manage the water resources that we all depend on to live. Yet the state has not revised its water supply master plan since 1996 – nearly nineteen years ago. The failure of the state to adopt a new water supply plan puts residents at risk for a water crisis similar to what is happening in states like California.Governor Christie must release the state water supply plan so that New Jersey can begin to address our aging water infrastructure and plan for the demands that are being placed on our precious water.
