A carbon footprint is a measure of the impact our activities have on the environment, in particular climate change. It relates to the amount of greenhouse gases produced by each of us every day through burning fossil fuels for electricity, heating & cooling and transportation. The carbon footprint is a measurement of all greenhouse gases we individually produce and has units of tones (or kg) of carbon dioxide equivalents.

Then plan on attending the first MyGreenCranford Speaker Series Seminar, “Green Currency: Accounting for Your Carbon Footprint.” A presentation of the Cranford Public Library, this event will take place at the Cranford Community Center on Thursday, November 12 at 7:30 PM. Mary Reilly, Cranford’s Green Team leader and a professional training consultant, will be the featured speaker. Participants will learn what a Carbon Footprint is and will be able to assign a value to daily activities the way we assign a money value to items and services or the way a dieter assigns and tracks calories of different food items. Several ideas on how to reduce your carbon footprint will also be presented.
